Forbes Celebrity 100 List for 2009

Angelina Jolie seems to be everywhere and now she has bumped Oprah of all people out of the number one position on the Forbes Celebrity 100 list. Oh, don’t worry, Oprah still earns more than Angelina (who only earned $27 million last year compared to Oprah’s $257 million), but maybe getting to go home to Brad Pitt every night gave Angelina a bit of an edge.

Okay, actually it was Angelina’s fame that put her on top, but then you have to give Brad and the children some credit for that. For landing in the number one position, Forbes says that Angelina is “the most powerful celebrity in the world.”

With Oprah in second place, you might ask yourself who rounded out the top ten. Well, the Material Girl, Madonna, who has been in tabloids the past year for her world tour, divorce from Guy Ritchie, reported affair with Alex Rodriguez, and new romance with boy toy Jesus Luz, landed in third place. Her earnings for the year were $110 million.

The ladies were in the lead as fourth place went to the lovely Beyonce Knowles. She earned $87 million last year. The guys didn’t even appear on the list until fifth place, which went to golf great Tiger Woods. Tiger was listed in second last year, but a bum knee knocked him lower in the list this year.

While the guys failed to take the top four places, they mostly rounded out the rest of the top ten with Bruce Springsteen (who is also on tour and been in the tabloids with rumors of an affair) in sixth place, Steven Spielberg in seventh place, Brad Pitt in eighth place, and Kobe Bryant in tenth place. The sole female in the bottom half of the top ten was Jennifer Aniston in ninth place.

It’s a bit amusing to me that Angelina, Brad, and Jennifer are all in the top ten. But, then again, every time I open a tabloid lately, there seems to be an article about how Angelina and Brad are breaking up because he’s been calling Jennifer.

Barack Obama made the list as well, but at a lowly 49th place. However, he is the first president to make the Forbes Celebrity list.
