Forget Spring Cleaning, Try Fall Cleaning

Forget spring cleaning…I am not a fan of it. I prefer to do my “spring” cleaning in the fall. I have two reasons for this. The first is that I figure with having windows open throughout the warmer months, I have collected enough dust or whatever else may come in, that it needs a thorough cleaning.

The second reason I prefer “fall cleaning” is because if I am going to be stuck inside my house for the next several months, I want it to be as clean as possible. Plus, it helps me prepare our home for the upcoming, busy holiday season. I spend more time outside during the warmer months, so it makes sense to me to get it deep cleaned for the long days of winter.

So this Saturday I am going to start with the living room. I am not only deep cleaning it, but doing any repairs or purchasing of items that may be necessary. I plan ahead, though.

I wrote down a list of all the cleaning that I want to do in my living room…the walls, baseboards, floor, taking pictures down and cleaning them…you get the idea. I am talking serious deep cleaning.

But then I also figured it was time to purchase slipcovers for the sofa and loveseat. It’s a way to spruce up my living room. I also plan on putting up my “harvest” decorations. It seems the perfect time.

When you take one room at a time, you might decide to touch up paint or repaint the room. You might replace light bulbs or wash your curtains/drapery. It’s also kind of fun to move things around, not only your furniture but rotate pictures on the wall.

I love doing things like this because it makes me look forward to spending more time indoors. What ways can you tackle your living room in the fall and prepare it for the long days of winter?

Do you like to do your deep cleaning in the spring or fall?
