Forming a Weight Loss Support Group

Forming a weight loss group is a great way to keep motivated, gain support, and stay accountable. It is easy to cheat on your diet if you think no one is looking. Having a few Oreos on the sly is easy to justify if you are not weighing in with a friend. Getting a group of friends together for the goal of losing weight can benefit the whole group. People have a tendency to lose more weight when they have the support of a friend. The most supportive friends in your weight loss journey will be those who are traveling on the same road.

How to form a weight loss group?

You will need members of your group first: Ask friends and family if any of them are willing to get together in a joint goal. You may motivate someone who has been trying for years to lose weight but only needed an extra push.

Next, you will need to make sure everyone is acquainted. Have a meeting so everyone can get together and begin to feel comfortable with one another. The more comfortable and friendly people are with each other the more successful this coalition will be.

Just like any club or organization you will want to assign someone to keep notes and keep everyone and everything organized. This person will keep a list of all members and their information. This person will also keep a record of everyone’s current weight and goals. This is essential because this is what will keep you accountable. This is also another reason to be sure everyone is comfortable with each other. Groups like this work best when everyone can be open, honest, and weigh in together. No pride, no shame, just a focused goal!

Depending on the size of your group you may want to assign everyone a buddy to check in everyday through email or a social media site. You also may want the group to “meet” online or have check ins online to make it more convenient for all schedules. Having a site, group on Facebook, or blog can also help everyone keep track of meetings, social events, and work out sche
