Four Ways to Reuse a Shower Curtain

Shower curtains can be handy things, even the old ones. Before you throw away a shower curtain, consider repurposing it into one of the following four options.

We came by our excess of shower curtains honestly. There were a few unopened shower curtains left behind in our house after the old owners moved out. We didn’t need them for the actual showers, so I had to think of other ways to put them to good use.

You might have an old shower curtain that is left over from redecorating or replacing the curtain. You might also consider picking up a couple of extra shower curtains at a dollar or bargain store. Some of these uses replace other more expensive products that do the same job.

1. Slip and slide

Put an old shower curtain down on the lawn and run a hose over it. You’ll have an instant “slip and slide” toy that the kids can use to cool off on a hot day. Make sure to lay it down where there are no rocks or stones to prevent tears.

2. Doggie bath

If you have ever bathed a dog, especially a large dog, you know that it is difficult to get the dog to stay on the towel or bath mat after you bath it. Lay out a shower curtain on the bathroom floor. This will give your dog the room to shake and move around a bit without flooding the floor.

3. Drop cloth

Forget the expensive drop cloths. A shower curtain laid on the floor while you are painting will do the job quite nicely. Unlike cloth drop cloths, you can easily wipe it clean before the paint dries, if you like.

4. Picnic time

We like to go to free outdoor concerts in the spring, summer and fall. Often we witness fireworks, fountain shows, music and theater performances on the lawn. The problem is that even with a blanket, the moisture from the grass can seep through. Out solution? First lay down a shower curtain underneath the blanket to act as a moisture barrier.
