My youngest grabbed the eraser and the chalk and adjusted our little Santa chalkboard that indicates the number of days left until Christmas.
“Only fourteen more days!” she shouted, adding a happy dance.
“Yep, only fourteen days,” I agreed, smiling but at the same time thinking I can’t believe Christmas is only two weeks away!
I’m not quite ready yet. Are you?
My husband and I did a little shopping Saturday and we finally put the tree up Sunday. Schedules have been hectic and trying to get everybody together for any length of time has been a challenge lately.
My husband’s been busy with work, I’ve been working extra, and my kids have extra curricular activities, clubs at school and church, babysitting, a part time job, and they are always receiving invitations to do something.
Finally, Sunday, everyone was going to be home for at least part of the day, so we turned on some Christmas music and put up the tree. It’s always fun to decorate it together and our puppy seemed to wonder what all the commotion was about. He ran from person to person as if to ask, “Hey, what’s going on?”
As I began wrapping presents, I realized I wouldn’t be able to put them under the tree right away, lest they be eaten by a curious, hungry little pup that recently became a member of the family. I’ll have to figure something out, because the tree just never feels “finished” until there are presents beneath it.
I don’t yet know if we’re having guests, but I’m going to plan as if we are… just in case.
There’s still a lot to do. I’ve got lists and more lists, including an after Christmas list. At two weeks and counting down fast, I guess I better get busy!
