Do you have a certain days of the week when you complete certain household chores? Traditionally, Monday was for washing, Tuesday for ironing, etc. Fridays were usually reserved for baking, I believe. In my household, though, it is a little different.
Lately I have been calling Fridays by the term Frantic Fridays. That is because I always find an urge to get the house completely back in order on that day and ready for the weekend. While I try to keep up with everything on a daily basis, I find that some things tend to fall apart by the end of the week. There may be a cup or a couple of dishes in the sink, the lint may be building up on the carpet, and there may be a sippy cup or two hidden around the house. So Friday is my day to reset the house as much as I can before the weekend breaks it all down again. I put on music and try to get the kids involved.
Some of the things I do on Frantic Fridays include the following:
Vacuum the entire house.
Make sure that the kids rooms are picked up. Any toys, books, etc left on the floor on a Friday gets loaded into a big bag and taken away to be earned back later.
Do any remaining laundry. This allows me to avoid doing laundry over the weekend even if someone wants a favorite shirt.
Attack all of those spots in the house where clutter tends to gather, such as the desk in the front hall, the top of the dining room pantries, etc.
Change bedding. Despite the recommendations to change bedding every two or three days, I still only do this about once a week.
Take a good look at the kitchen, wiping down counters, the microwave, the front of the refrigerator and any other mysteriously sticky surfaces that might have gotten missed or ignored during the week.
Clean the bathrooms and change the towels (although I may change towels twice a week).
Look under furniture for stray toys, those sippy cups, etc.
Do you have a Frantic Friday, or do you keep a good handle on your home all week long?
