Free and Low Cost Artwork

rust We just mostly finished up our family room, installing new carpet and painting the walls. It looks great, and there are only a few things left to do in the room. One of the big tasks that is remaining is to select some artwork, including pictures for the walls. Right now, everything is blank. Artwork could really warm up the room and add some personality.

Do you have any ideas for free and low cost artwork? Here are my ideas.

My computer is filled with thousands of digital photos that we took, including scenic photos of flowers, birds, the woods, amish farms, landscapes and even random patterns. I just may pick out a few of these photos and have them printed large. Then I can frame them myself. Thanks to my computer, I can even turn them into sepia toned or black and white prints.

If none of our personal photos are quite rights, I can go to one of the many free image websites and print out an image from there, or upgrade and purchase one for a low price. There are some very interesting images out there, and this is still less expensive than purchasing a print elsewhere.

I can buy or salvage a coffee table book and create bookplates. You can click here to learn more about bookplates.

I can do some thrift store shopping. Even if there is no appealing artwork to be had, there are probably plenty of frames that could be reused.

I could look around our home for interesting things to add to an inexpensive shadow box. We have some old fashioned skeleton keys that might look interesting. Or, we could have a collection of all of the small things that we have found in this house that were left by the previous owners, such as a tiny tin yo-yo and a unique bottle opener.
