Free At Last—Paris Walks

While most of us were nestled in bed (please don’t tell me you stayed up to watch it unfold), one of the country’s most talked about jailbirds took flight shortly after midnight Pacific Time.

Paris Hilton is once again a free woman.

With a huge grin plastered on her face the hotel heiress strolled out of jail and into her mother’s arms. The 26-year-old party princess was dressed down in an olive jacket, white shirt, tight jeans, and her hair was pulled back in a braided ponytail (reminiscent of her days on the farm during the first season of her reality TV show “The Simple Life”).

If you happened to be up with a sick child you could have caught it all live. A second-by-second account of Hilton’s release was broadcast live by numerous cable news networks and local TV stations. If you missed it (on purpose) allow me to fill you in on a few highlights of the celebutante’s release:

· According to jail officials Hilton reportedly lost 10 pounds during her 23 days behind bars (and subsequent hunger strike—see also: her refusal to eat prison issued hot dogs).

· Before leaving the jail a sheriff’s spokesperson said the fashionista went into a public restroom to change into going-home ensemble.

· A few deputies were reportedly “sad” to see Hilton go.

· More than 500 members of the media showed up to document the famous jailbird’s release. Two hundred of them reportedly continued to track the Hilton’s black SUV through the streets of L.A. They hit the jackpot when the vehicle had to stop at a red light. The paparazzi used the opportunity to jump out of their cars to create massive flashbulb frenzy.

· About an hour after her release Hilton’s chauffeured SUV arrived at her parents’ Beverly Hills mansion. No word on how long she will stay there. Some reports indicated that the hotel heiress might check into an upscale resort until her appearance tomorrow on CNN’s “Larry King Live.”
