Whether you are moving to a new home, or moving back to college for school, you are going to need lots of boxes. It’s no fun going around to grocery and retail stores, and begging their employees for extra boxes from the back room. It can get expensive to purchase boxes from companies that ship things. Instead, why not get some free boxes from the United States Postal Service?
In my experience, one can never have enough boxes when preparing for a move. This is equally true if you are moving all the way across the country to a new home, or if you are just moving from mom and dad’s house back to your dorm room this semester. Moving comes with a lot of little extra expenses that you didn’t plan for. Free boxes are a great deal!
To get free boxes from USPS, start by going to their website. This is the Postal Store. From here, you can see the different kinds of stamps that are currently being sold. There is a link that takes you to several items that stamp collectors may be interested in. There are educational related items, and personalized envelopes, and much more. You want to find the link that says “For Mailing & Shipping” in bright red. In this square, it says “Priority Mail Flat Rate Boxes Variety Pack Free”. Click on the blue button that says “order” to get started.
You can place your order for free boxes right on the website. It seems like you are only able to order 1 variety pack of free boxes. It usually takes seven to ten days for the variety pack of boxes to arrive at your door, so you will want to plan ahead. The variety pack consists of four boxes: one small flat rate box, one medium flat rate box size 1, and one medium flat rate box size 2, and also one large flat rate box.
The U.S. Postal Service offers free package pick up from your home or office, and you can schedule when you would like that pickup to be. This is a great way to pre-pack some items, and ship them off to your new destination. To find out shipping prices, and the weight each box will hold, you should check the USPS website, or walk into your local post office and ask.
