Free Cookbooks and Recipes

cookbooks Are you ready to start cooking more from scratch? It will save you a lot of money over the coursed of a year if you can make your meals at home. Embracing cooking at home is wonderful, exciting and maybe even a little overwhelming. Do you just want to run our an buy up a bunch of new cookbooks? Well, you could do that and still save money by not eating out on one or two occasions, but wouldn’t it be better to take advantage of getting free cookbooks and recipes. Here are my favorite sources.

Free cookbooks from manufacturers

Many companies, such as Kraft and Campbell put out their own cook books that you can get for free, in an effort to make you use your products. Go ahead and start with some of these recipes that used convenience foods until you can get to the point where you are making your own soups and bread crumbs for these same recipes.

Free recipes online

Take advantage of the many great recipes that are available online. I like the website, allrecipes.com, but there are also many others, including websites dedicated to frugal cooking. Of course, don’t forget to browse through the Food section of this Frugal Living Blog.

Free recipes in free magazines

Get free magazines buy signing up for them online. You can then take advantage of all of the great recipes that they contain. The library will usually give away or sell last year’s magazines, and you can go through them for the recipes. I was able to do just this for Good Housekeeping and Women’s Day. I picked up 24 issues for only $2.

The library

Check out a bevy of cookbooks, try out the recipes and then copy the ones that work well for your family. I use a simple writing journal purchased for 50 cents to jot down our favorite recipes. You can also keep files on your computer with all of the great recipes you have gathered.
