Free Day or Binge Day?

“I’m following Body-for-Life. On the binge day am I able to go out and drink and can I literally eat anything?”

First of all, calling your “Free Day” a “Binge Day” is looking at this in a very unhealthy way. If you call it a “Binge Day”, you may very well be encouraging yourself to start some very unhealthy eating habits, eat when you aren’t hungry or eat when you really have no physical desire to do so. Words have meaning for us. The word “Free” has a much more positive connotation. It is more like giving yourself a free pass or being free to eat whatever you may have been craving during the week. It allows you to feel free of guilt.

Calling it a “Binge Day” makes it a completely different animal. Bingeing is very unhealthy, can cause a serious downward spiral in health and can make one very ill. If a free day to you means a binge then you might want to consider not so much what you eat but why you eat.

As for the Body-for-Life Free Day, yes you can drink (although it isn’t recommended) and you can eat whatever you like. You should realize though that after following the Body-for-Life eating program all week, eating everything in sight will make you feel awful. You’ll feel bloated, sluggish, crampy and just generally miserable. In fact, bingeing on this day will give you cause to consider bulimia and we all know that is not the direction we want to go when we’re on the Body-for-Life program.

So yes, in a nutshell, on your free day on Body-for-Life, you can go out and consume whatever food or beverages you like. But just because you have the freedom to do so doesn’t mean you’ll enjoy it. Give it a try one week and you’ll know exactly what I mean.
