When the household budget gets really tight, the first thing that is placed on the chopping block is my scrapbooking hobby. I completely understand the decision, as food, insurance and my young daughter’s extracurricular activities take priority over photos and fancy embellishments. What’s more, when there is a freeze on funds for family hobbies it forces me to be more creative with my scrapbooking.
Fortunately for me and thousands of other cash-strapped scrappers, there are a dozens of websites that offer free scrapbooking supplies. I am not a huge fan of digital scrapbooking, but when times are tough I often take advantage of the free page kits and embellishments offered on a number of sites, and download them to add to my own layouts. You can do this by simply printing the elements out and using them the same way you would with traditional paper scrapbooking supplies. My favorite sites to visit for free digital scrapbook supplies include Digital Scrapbook Place, Cottage Arts, Shabby Princess, Designer Digitals, The Digi Chick, Scrapbook Bytes, Designs by Diva and Two Peas in a Bucket.
If you have some flexibility in your budget, but you are still interested in saving while you scrap, then consider visiting sites that offer free fonts. Unique font choices can really make your layouts pop, so why not take advantage of free typography? I often download fonts for free from the following websites: Da Font, Scrap Girls, Scrap Village, 1001 Free Fonts, and Scrapping with Style Fonts.
Another great way to save when scrapping is to be a savvy shopper. Look for clearance sales or buy one, get one free deals when you visit your local scrapbook store. Another option is to register for a store punch card. Often when you fill up the card with other purchases you will be rewarded with savings of up to 50% off your next item.
