Cleaning out your house takes time, time that many of us just do not have. It is hard enough to find the time to clean, but then to have to find homes for our “good junk” is even more difficult. Yet, you hate to throw things away that someone else may be able to find a use for.
There are so many people in this world who have to go without things that they are in need of. It is a shame and I am one of those people who have a great deal of difficulty just tossing things into the trash. I truly just cannot do it. I tried doing it a couple of times and wound up digging through the trash to retrieve them. I try to post things and sell them, but that is very time consuming. I usually just wind up bringing my things to work and giving them away. I feel good about this too. Most people are very appreciative, happy, thankful and excited when I do this. Others will question me with one raised eyebrow and want to know why I want to give my things away, taking the item hesitantly from my hands and thanking me while they are doing it. It is very interesting to watch their reactions.
Apparently, I am not alone in this thinking mode, as Craigslist has a special section just for “Free” items. Searching through the items today I have seen a dishwasher, organ, flowers, a desk, a sliding window, fill dirt, a bench and an ironing board. Granted, these are usually not new items, but still items that have some usage left to them. Remember though, they are FREE.
Check out Craigslist’s “free” category. You may just find something that you are looking for. With so many people going without things or strapped for cash and struggling, not to mention our landfills piling up, it is nice to know that someone cares enough to bother doing this. Be thankful and appreciative of this example of kindness in our world.
