Want to take your family to the movies but are put off by the cost? Here are some ways to get to go to the movies for free.
The other day, my son was itching to go see a certain movie that features a big green ogre. How could he not? The guy was plastered everywhere, from fast food to toilet paper. I kid you not on that last one. I saw it while visiting a department store last week. Even if I approved of the movie, there was no way I was prepared to spend $50 plus for my family of five to attend one little movie. Fortunately, there are many alternatives that will allow us to get the movie experience without breaking the bank.
The first way is by looking out for free “Movies in the Park.” These are usually given by a local town or borough and are very family friendly. You bring a blanket and snacks, pull up a piece of lawn and enjoy the movie as a family for free. I know of at least three such towns in my area that are offering free movies in the month of June. You can find them through your town or borough hall, through your local libraries or just by keeping an eye out for signs.
Another great way to take advantage of free movies, this time in the theater is to find out about the free movie programs that are offered by your local movie theater chain. These movies are geared for kids and usually feature the main attraction and a cartoon. They can get a bit noisy, with all of those kids jumping around, but we have never had a problem following the movies themselves. The selections are generally very good, although they aren’t first run movies.
You can do an internet search for these programs or check out the the following programs:
