Many families, libraries, and schools sponsor and encourage summer reading through programs and incentives. Some businesses are also joining in on encouraging children to read throughout the summer.
We have discussed many times the importance of reading and keeping your child’s brain alert during the summer.
I have listed a couple of business offers below that might help you get your child fired up and ready to read. While encouraging your child to read, read, read, do not forget to try a little math and science too!
Build A Bear Workshop Reading Program
Build a Bear Workshop is offering special gifts to children who read during the summer. Children simply must read five books before July 31st and fill out a form that can be printed off of the Build A Bear site. Take the form to a local Build A Bear shop and receive the following kit:
Six book plates
One bookmark
One book cover
$3.00 off a future $15.00 purchase (granted 43.00 will not go far but it helps!)
A special gift from Borders
Barnes and Noble Book Store Offer
Barnes and Noble Book Stores are also offering a special program for summer readers. This offer I especially like because there is also involvement to the reading process. Your children read any eight books of their choosing and write about them using the templates that can be printed from the Barnes and Noble website. The templates discuss favorite parts of the books, authors, and illustrators. Children then print off, complete, and take a Summer Reading in the Magic Tree House Journal tear page to a Barnes and Noble bookstore. At the store the children get to choose free books from a long list of titles. This offer would probably be best suited for children in the first grade and up.
I hope that some of you take advantage of these two great offers to encourage summertime reading among our youth!
