Free Things You May Or May Not Know About

In my opinion and I am sure the opinion of many of you, the best price for anything is free. While we can not get everything that we want and need for free, it is nice to know that sometimes we do get a break. Today, as I was perusing the interesting information on Yahoo! Finance, I came across Farnoosh Torabi’s list of some great things that won’t cost you anything. Some of the things on the list were not surprising to me, but some of them were things that I had not heard about.

In the “already knew about that” category are things like free kid’s meals with the purchase of an adult entrée, available on different days at different restaurants. While I have not taken advantage of this one yet by going to TGI Fridays on a Monday, for example, my son is getting to the age where his appetite is big enough for us to start ordering kid’s meals for him. I was also previously aware of the free flu shots at CVS and other places, and free video tutorials on YouTube and VideoJug.

Some of the things on Farnoosh’s list came as a surprise to me. For example, I had no idea that you can borrow e-books from many local libraries now. I know that you can read some books on Google Books for free, but I did not know that there were other web sites offering free reading like Daily Lit and Project Gutenberg. Chocolate is also apparently another thing that you can get for free. Godiva and Lindt both offer rewards programs that cost nothing to sign up and occasionally deliver the delicious gift of a chunk or two of chocolate at no charge.

The suggestion of free massages at massage therapy schools is a great one, and it reminded me of other free or low-cost services that can be obtained from those that are learning how to provide them. Cosmetology schools offer many hair and spa services at a fraction of salon prices. Dental schools sometimes offer free cleanings and may even offer other low cost dental procedures. Look around to see what educational facilities exist in your area and give them a call to see what they offer.
