I’m so excited to share this project, everything about it makes me happy. My sister received one of these cute bulletin boards for Christmas and I just had to have one, so I made it. This is quick, easy and inexpensive. It’s so easy that a friend at work is going to do it with her girls group at church.
Materials needed
Foam board in size you want the memo board
Quilt batting- this is a great way to use scraps of batting
Fabric- large enough to cover your board plus 2”on each side
Ribbon
Decorative items
*Cut the foam board to the size you want the board to be, this will depend on where you want to hang it.
*Cut quilt batting to fit the top of the board, use hot glue to hold it in place.
*Lay your fabric on the table, right side down and center your batting covered board on it.
*Pull the fabric to the back of the board on one side. I stapled it in place but you could hot glue it or use whatever your preferred method of holding things together is.
*Pull the opposite side of the fabric to the back, making sure the front lays taut and flat. Staple in place.
*Repeat with the other two sides, making sure to fold the corners so they lie flat.
*Flip the board over and lay out your ribbon. This may take a little bit to get the ribbon exactly the way you want it. I used two different colors of ribbon because I didn’t have enough of one color. You can use as many or as few colors as you’d like.
*Once you have the placement of the ribbon start on one side and hot glue the ribbon to the back. Work your way around the board and when you get to a piece that is already glued on the other end make sure you pull it tight.
*Once I had the ribbon all glued I stapled it as well.
*To give the board that puffy look, make an X stitch through the ribbon and board to pull the ribbon into the board. When you are finished add a touch of hot glue to each little knot on the back to keep them from pulling through the board.
*Now decorate! You can use buttons, pennies, beads, fabric flowers, whatever you would like. You can decorate every ribbon intersection or just some.
*If you are giving the board as a gift cut another piece of fabric the size of the board plus one inch. Attach this fabric to the back of the board using hot glue, turning the edges under for a more finished look. I didn’t cover mine because I knew no one would see it.
*One last thing, cut a piece of ribbon the width of the board plus one inch and hot glue to the back of the board about an inch down from the top on each side.
That’s all there is to it! I know it seems like a lot of steps and I wish I could have posted more pictures but it’s really easy, and if you have any questions, just ask, I’ll send you a picture of the step that has you confused or talk you through it. I hope you love this as much as I do!
