Friday Frugal Funnies: Making Mashed Potatoes

Frugal Funnies, budget, Humor, jokesWe’ve been sharing personal accounts of frugality as our normal Friday funnies. The reason why? Most people who are super frugal have at least one funny story of something that has happened, or something they have done to save money that will get a giggle from the rest of us, and a nod from others. Why? Because we’ve all done it.

From buying too much, using something you bought for an unintended purpose that warranted disastrous results to general strange frugal habits, there is something to entertain and delight any frugal minded individual. So with that said, I’d like to introduce a very frugal lady who has decided to share her frugal funny, here at families.com.

Kelly shares:
“I don’t think I’ve ever shared this story with anyone. But hey I’m ready. Us frugal gals have to stick together. My frugality ended in disaster and I had a huge cooking mishap last year at Thanksgiving, and I think it’s the perfect story to share with you. Being the frugal gal that I am, I couldn’t serve BOXED mashed potatoes at Thanksgiving, I had to mash them myself. So I scoured the stores and the sales ads until I could get the best deal on a bag of potatoes. I got a ton and was so excited. Thanksgiving day arrived and it was time to prepare the mashed potatoes. So I popped the potatoes into a pot and cooked them in hot water until they were nice and soft. I already had so many projects and other dishes going that I thought, hey – maybe I could try the blender for the mashed potatoes. It has a mashed button, right? It seemed so much easier than pulling out my mixer and doing them that way. Yeah, not so much. Apparently mashing potatoes in not an option in a blender even if it does have a MASH button. Because you know what? I didn’t end up with mashed potatoes for my thanksgiving meal, what I ended up with was something that resembled a very milky, thick glue – potato glue. I had to scrap the whole thing and opt for instant mashed potatos. Even doctored up they didn’t taste as good as real potatos. So, yep, that’s my frugal related disaster. I’ve learned a lot since then and this year I’m making them the traditional way, just the day before!”

Kelly thank you for sharing your frugal disaster story. I know many of us can relate to this even if we haven’t made “potato glue” before.

Next week, another great frugal disaster story! Watch the frugal living blog for more hilarious mishaps and budget minded disasters!
