From “Desperate Housewife” to Expectant Mother

Well, that didn’t take long! It seems like just yesterday I was blogging about “Desperate Housewives” star Marcia Cross’ summer wedding to “sweetie” Tom Mahoney. Now, word comes that just a couple months after they tied the knot, the couple is expecting their first child together.

PEOPLE Magazine says it has learned exclusively and the actress’s rep confirmed that Cross is due to give birth in April. The 44-year-old actress married her 48-year-old stockbroker husband in June after dating for more than a year… and it looks like the celebration will continue with the arrival of their first born.

When the redheaded actress got engaged in August 2005 her “Desperate Housewives” costars were elated for her. Eva Longoria told PEOPLE at the time: “I’m so excited for her. It’s so beautiful to see her this happy and so in love.” Can you imagine how her costars reacted to the news of her pregnancy? There must have been a lot of hooting and hollering on the set the day Cross made her announcement.

For all of you who don’t follow “Desperate Housewives,” Cross plays uptight Bree Van de Kamp on the ABC series, which begins its third season this month. In fact, Cross has been nominated for an Emmy for her work on the show, though I get the feeling the news that she will soon be adding to her family far outweighs the joy she felt when she heard she was nominated for a gold statuette.

I did the math and by my calculations, if Cross is due in April she will be pregnant during the “Desperate Housewives’” entire third season. ABC says shooting for the new season began last month and runs through… you guessed it… April, the same month Cross is due to give birth. I can’t imagine that her pregnancy will be written into the show. After all, “Bree” is a recent widow and on the verge of a nervous breakdown–though goodness knows–stranger things have happened on the show.
