From Potential Disaster to Triumph

I have so been enjoying my new slow cooker. What an improvement on the last one. Since we were getting it with reward points we went for an up market model and one in which you could brown meat in the same pot before turning it onto slow cook.

It is a Morphy Richards stainless steel and looks very sleek, rather like I a flying saucer. It’s been getting a lot of use.

Even so things don’t always work out as planned. We were going to a birthday party on Sunday afternoon and I was to take the crock pot meal. Not a problem. Although we were at church in the morning, the plan was to make it and let it turn on while we were out with the timer and cook while we were away, which sounded fine in theory. It didn’t happen in practice.

One little thing we forgot to switch it on at the crock pot, so when we came home, two hours before the party it hadn’t started to cook.

Once I got over th panic, rather than change plans I turned it onto high for an hour and a half. When I checked it an hour and a half later, the meat and vegetables were cooked beautifully. I then turned it down, added a little thickener and let it cook the remaining half hour on low.

Without needing to be turned on again, it was still hot some time after when we came to eat. But the best part? The comments from other people.

You’ll find the recipe for Moroccan Beef here. I just added a few carrots to stretch it, as they were inexpensive and I was catering for a good number of people. I actually think it added to the taste. Instead of cumin which I didn’t have, I added Moroccan spice powder. At the party several people said they’d like the recipe, so I was pleased with how it all turned out.
