Yesterday I provided several ideas for decorating with what you might already have in your home. Using what you have is always the cheapest alternative and you’d be amazed and how you can spurce items up and make them look more expensive than they are. Here are a few more additional ideas to get your creativity flowing.
Vases
Vases hold flowers, an absolute given. But they can be used for many other things too.
- Cut holes in a clear or white plastic lid and place flowers in a vase. The candles fit snuggly in the holes and won’t tip and more than likely nobody will notice how you did it. Tie a ribbon around the top of the vase to disguise it.
- Branches, Pussy willows and other large items from outdoors can be held together in a vase by tying a seasonal ribbon around the bunch and placing in the vase.
- Vases can also hold large amounts of candy, nuts, or other items for a party or that you like to leave out.
Candles
I am a candle addict. I love burning them. The atmosphere almost changes instantly when there is a candle burning.
- If you have a fireplace set different sized candles inside for a beautiful fire even in the hottest months. The candles don’t give off large amounts of heat, so you can use them year round. A large cluster really does look beautiful.
- Use different types of items as candle holders, such as plastic strawberry baskets, clay pots, and different sized tin cans for foods like tuna, soups, etc.
- Decorate candles with thumbtacks, beads or buttons. Be creative, even several nails pushed into the wax makes a unique candle. You could even thread ribbon or wind ribbon around the nails.
Hopefully these ideas will help you find some uses for items you might already have laying around. If you don’t already have some items you can use, visit some garage sales, flea markets and antique shops and see what you can find. A few weekends ago we found a beautiful large crystal bowl for fifty cents at a garage sale. We brought it home and filled it with pine cones, acorns and a few fallen leaves. It looks gorgeous in the middle of our kitchen table. Over the weekend for something different, we placed large ball candles on top. Beautiful.
