Ideas for a Frugal Fall at Home

leaf I just love the fall! Crunching the leaves underfoot, the cooler temperatures that invite you to snuggle under a blanket or don a soft sweatshirt or sweater, the crisp sound of a bite into that first apple, hunting for pumpkins, fall decorating, the wonderful smells coming from the oven and more. It has to be one of my favorite times of the year.

There are so many great things to do and take advantage of in the fall. Here are some that we are doing, have done or are planning. I hope you can take some ideas from here and then add your own in the comments section!

It is time for yummy things in the crock pot. Today I am making an apple crisp using two cans of apple filling I found in the back of the pantry, along with a crust topping of Bisquick mix, cinnamon, cloves, brown sugar, butter and vanilla. As a bonus, it is making the house smell wonderfully good.

Today, the leaves are really coming down. The fly past our backyard windows as though they are raining down from heaven itself. The kids have been delighted watching them appear in waves, reflecting the soft fall light. This morning, after my eldest went off to school, the two younger ones and I swept the driveway of leaves. It is amazing how eager and how accomplished they were, even thought they are only three and two years old. Of course, there was also plenty of time for riding the big wheel ride on vehicle (we got it for $1 at a yard sale a few weeks ago) across the pile and shuffling it around with our feet. We got in some healthy exercise all for free.

After the leaves were done, we came inside to print out some paper toys and pumpkin masks. The Toy Maker has a great little fall theme toys. Just a printer, some card stock, scissors, and exacto knife (used by mommy of course) and a glue stick yielded at least an hour of fun.

How are you enjoying your frugal fall day?
