Do you ever have one of those days where you either just can’t come up with any new ways to cut costs or you feel yourself in the beginning throes of frugal fatigue? I think I hit this today.
I have been sitting staring at the computer, looking for some inspiration that I could share with you about being frugal. But, exhaustion is distracting me. My youngest child, “woke up on the wrong side of the bed” so to speak. After battling through breakfast (which he refused to eat), a bath (which he refused to take) and three changes of socks (Each pair was rejected. The fourth pair was a pair of baby socks that I somehow missed donating, and these were the ones he wanted, although they didn’t fit) I am a little bit off my game.
Until a few moment ago, I figured that I hadn’t done a single actively frugal thing today, but then I realized that there was plenty going on. I made an inexpensive frugal breakfast, I repurposed a clean bread bag to hold grapes, I gathered some things for donation (I’m considering blessing others as frugal. It may be a stretch, but hey, I need all of the help I can get here), and I am washing the clothes in cold water and with half of the recommended detergent (yes, they still get as clean). I also made sure to put a full load into the dishwasher (which doesn’t have a heat dry), cut up some leftover paper to make little pads for the kids to draw upon and check to make sure the family library books weren’t due.
All of these things save money, and I did them pretty much without thinking. Frugal living is so much a part of our lifestyle now that much of it comes automatically. It consists of active ways to save our resources, and inactive ways. Sometimes we save by using coupons and getting good deals, other times just by not buying certain things at all.
So, I’m going to give myself permission to relax here, look forward to nap time and have an extra cup of coffee (okay, not very frugal). Maybe it will inspire future money saving posts.
