Frugal Fun Resolutions for the New Year

Being frugal can be fun, just as long as you keep some fun in your life. Sure there is joy in the fun of finding the best deal and feeling like you are stealing, but being frugal day after day, can be a downer if you shut the joy out of your life in your pursuit of frugality. With that said, here are my frugal resolutions for 2010.

Frugal fun resolutions #1: Find free community activities to do and do them at least once a month. There are movies in the park. There are free museum days. There are local festivals on a daily basis. By spending more time doing free stuff, we will certainly spend less time spending money or wanting to spend money.

Frugal fun resolutions #2: Read classic books. Reading is Fun, and classics are free. To top it off, parents who read have kids who read, so this is a win-win resolutions.

Frugal fun resolutions #3: Learn to crochet… or knit. By learning this valuable craft, I can make more great gifts for friends and family. I am not talking about basics. I already can make a crooked scarf. I want to learn how to make attractive items that people will love, so I can give low cost, but high value gifts.

Frugal fun resolutions #4: Take advantage of neighborhood associated amenities. I have to pay for the neighborhood association fees so why not use the pool and tennis courts. This year, I will make it a point to stop wasting money by using amenities I am paying for. If you don’t live in a neighborhood association and don’t have such amenities, make it a point to use your local city and neighborhood amenities such as parks and walking paths.
