Frugal Halloween Decorations Made By Hand (1)

Halloween is a fun family time with crafts and decorations that can be made. Decorating a home at Halloween can be a whole family affair from the cutest pumpkins to the scariest monsters and skeletons. Except buying all the fun Halloween decorations can be expensive. Instead, consider making your own out of things you might already have. Save money, be creative, have fun and still be able to decorate for this spooky holiday.

Candle Path Lights

You’ve seen them. Those cute little bag style candle holders with cut outs that you are supposed to set along your driveway, sidewalk or other path? Don’t buy them. They are so easy to make. All you need is some empty soup cans in various sizes. Fill them up with water about halfway and place them in the freezer to freeze. Remember that water expands so its important to only fill a little over halfway. Once the water is frozen remove and with a chisel, make eyes, faces, patterns, or whatever you want. We made a cat face and several pumpkins. Remove the ice and allow to dry completely. Spray paint the base coat. We used black for our cat and orange for our pumpkins.
Next, allow to dry and then add sand or dirt and a candle. A votive works best although I’ve had lots of luck with several other shapes and types too.

Frankenstein

You can create your own frankestein by spraying a milk jug green. Then spray the bottom of the milk jug black. Once completely dry, flip the milk jug over with the pour spout at the bottom. Paint on the face. Screw two large bolts from the home improvement store into the jug just below the face, close to the neck. Attach a chain to the top of the jug and a black rag over the spout. Glue in place or use string, or yarn.
