Frugal Living Week in Review for September 3-9, 2007

It was a short week with the Monday holiday, and getting back into the swing of things again on Tuesday threw me off the rest of the week, and I was always a day behind. However, the blogs here at families.com were still filling up with excellent articles on every topic you could want. Let’s see what happened in the frugal living blog this week.

More Frugal Decorating With Flea Market Finds

Lately I have been obsessed with decorating my home. Partly because we are putting it on the market, and partly because I know we will be getting a new home and I am excited to get moving on the design and decorations.

Frugal Decorating with Flea Market Finds

After my two part series on Decorating at the Dollar Store, I thought it would be nice to add some great and frugal decorating tips I have obtained from objects I’ve purchased at the flea market as well.

Sometimes Odd But New Uses for Old Stuff

There is a certain addiction in our household. I can almost say it is a competition sometimes. We all enjoy discovering new uses for items that are used for something else entirely. The stranger the use the better, though we all agree it must be practical too.

Virtual Garage Sale Tips

Yesterday, I introduced the concept of having a virtual garage sale. What did you think? Pretty easy to get started with one, isn’t it? We talked about how to set up a virtual garage sale, as well as how to get the word out to potential customers.

Dividing Your Household Notebook

By now you should have gathered all of the supplies that you need for making your household notebook. If you have not accomplished this yet, I strongly urge you to consider this method of household organization. For years it has saved my family a lot of time and money.

How to Make a Household Notebook

My household notebook is truly my household manager. Sometimes I think that if I didn’t have it, I would not know which way was up, at least half the time. I discovered household notebooks many years ago.

Have A Virtual Garage Sale

Want to make some extra cash? Why not host a virtual garage sale? There are many benefits to hosting a virtual garage sale compared to your average, normal, put everything out on the front law, type of sale.

Stockpiling Pizza

Pizza is such a great family food. Everyone seems to love it, and it is great to have on hand for parties. But, buying pizza out can get pretty expensive, so I usually make it myself. For about $2, sometimes less, I can make two large pizzas.

Can Meal or Menu Planning Really Save You Money?

At great lengths we have discussed menu planning, and how it saves both time and money when you stick to a plan and a shopping list. I recently had a chance to see it in action, so I thought I would show you the difference.

Time to Update Your Household Notebook and More

My Household Notebook articles were such a hit last year, that I have decided to write more so I can spread the word further.

Are You Sinking Your Ship?

Are you two bucketfuls away from disaster? You may be unintentionally sabotaging your savings and sinking your household ship. One of my favorite dead people is Benjamin Franklin.

Frugal Organizational Articles

In honor of our annual fall cleaning and organizing at our home, I thought I’d provide a great set of articles to get you motivated and to think creatively on how to organize your own home.

Emergency Laundry Detergent

There it is, at least three days until the next paycheck, and you find yourself with ten loads of laundry and no laundry detergent. What can you do besides going around naked? Here is how to get by, frugally, until you can stock up again.

More Fabulous Fall Frugal Fun for the Whole Family

Wow! That’s a whole lot of F’s in my title, but it is true. With the weather quickly changing and all the opportunities to be outdoors or to celebrate fall, I wanted to take some time to focus on seasonal activities for the whole family.

Basement Floor Savings (And Garage Floor, Too)

As you might now know, I am blogging over at the Home Blog (as well as here at the Frugal Blog and there at the Computing Blog), and I am sharing my family’s adventure as we clean out our garage. Now that the garage floor is nice and clean, my husband has mentioned painting it.

Frugal Living Week in Review for August 27th to September 2nd, 2007

After a wonderful extended holiday weekend, school is officially in full swing for everyone, even though many have been back for weeks. As summer draws to a close and fall or autumn leaves and weather start to come into focus, the focus of the frugal living blog will not change.

Make A Frugal Greenhouse

With all of our trips to local parks and gardens, I have really been itching to have a garden and grow our own vegetables. My grand plans will have to wait until next year, when we can install some protective fencing. Otherwise, my garden will wind up feeding the deer and the bunnies.
