Rubber Chicken: Stretch that Bird!
Have you ever heard of rubber chicken? No, I’m not talking about a real rubber chicken that used to be all the rage among 80’s comics. Nor am I talking about a badly prepared chicken dish, like the one you might get from the hospital cafeteria. No, having a rubber chicken means stretching out one little chicken to make several meals. In other words, stretch out that chicken until there is nothing left that you can get from it. There are a couple of ways to do it, but this is how my family generally stretches a chicken to get the most for out money.

As any frugal person knows, using the library is a great money-saving practice. From books to movies, there is a lot of great entertainment you can get for free at your local library. But summertime is when the library really shines. Longer hours and great summer library programs make the library a good source of fun summer activities for the whole family. And free prizes and activities make the library especially frugal in the summer.

New Uses for Old Inflatable Toys
Now that summer is here and in full swing, you are probably raiding your garage, closets, attics, shred and wherever else you store your summer swim toys. You know the types of toys I am talking about? Those inflatable tubes, mats, beds, dolphins, snakes, water wings, beach balls, etc. And chances are, when you go to blow them back up, at least a few will be flat as a pancake and unable to be used.

We are slowly in the process of getting through our many VHS movies. Over the years, we’ve picked up quite a few of them from thrift stores and yard sales. Friends have given us their VHS tapes when they have upgraded to DVD because they knew that we would use them. We were one of the last hold outs in purchasing a DVD player.

It is a good idea to clean out your spices on a frequent basis. Most herbs and spices lose their potency within six months to a year and need to be replaced. You can try to use them after that time, but as I once read somewhere, if you have old herbs and spices, then you are essentially just putting dirt on your food. But don’t give up your spices just because of that fact. Cooking with spices can be very frugal. You can make some very flavorful low cost meals with the addition of spices.
4 Ways A “Museum” Membership Can Be Frugal
Think spending a good chunk of money on a museum or attraction membership isn’t frugal? Think again.
This might seem like a strange title for a blog, but stick with me. You see, believe it or not, we don’t drink any soda in our household, at least not unless one of us is sick and needs a little bit of flat ginger-ale. But, we do sometimes purchase soda to have on hand for birthday parties and visitors, because we know so many people who enjoy soda. We also don’t drink coffee, but that is another story.
