Don’t you hate it when everything clings to you in the winter? Whether it is your skirt or pants sticking to your legs, or your hair plastered to your head or hat, static cling is a nuisance.
Back when I was was wearing skirts and stockings on a daily basis, both when I was in school and later when I was in the office, I used to carry around one of those spray cans of static. I must have gone through a large can every two weeks in the wintertime. The cans of static spray work well, but I never could stand the smell of them. The expense of those little cans is equally hard to take. Fabric softener is supposed to reduce the static, but I never found it to do enough. And there are some times that you just can’t use it, such as when hand washing delicate silk items.
Now that I am practicing a frugal lifestyle, I have discovered a nice little trick that is practically free, and yet does away with the static. This method is also safe to use on your hair, and it doesn’t smell bad or release fumes into the air.
Do you know what it is? I bet some of you guessed. It is the humble dryer sheet. Keep a dryer sheet handy in your purse or bag and run it over your clothing or hair to keep the static under control. One sheet can be used many times over, and you won’t smell like anything other than clean laundry. You can even make use of dryer sheets that have already been through the dryer for laundry. They will still work. Isn’t this a great trick?
And don’t forget all of those other uses for used dryer sheets, from dusting to freshening a drawer.
