Frugal Weekend Report: Sunday, July 13th

rake Have you done anything frugal this weekend? I find weekends the hardest time to be frugal. There is all of this running around, the grocery shopping, the events, etc., that make spending a temptation. Are weekends harder for you to be frugal or easier?

I’m sitting here enjoying some quite moments out on the porch this Sunday, reflecting on some of the frugal things that we have been doing and will do this weekend, before the pull of the day carries me away.

One of the first frugal things we did was to load up one of the cars with household donations to be dropped off during the week. I catalogue everything we donate, and this gives us a break on our income taxes. I find this a better way to get rid of extra stuff. it blesses others, and it blesses us with more space in the house. Often, you can claim more for a donated item than you would make at a yard sale, since thrift stores tend to sell items for a higher price. A suit, for example, may be valued as high as $100, but I doubt you would get that at a yard sale.

We dinner have an early dinner out. As I mentioned in my earlier blog, eating out is one of our roadblocks. so, there was some expense there.

For the evening’s entertainment, we used our membership at a local estate to go to concert given my a grammy-nominated music group. Afterwards, we took in a fountain and music show with lawn seating. I brought along a tube of light sticks (bracelets). I found the tubes for $1 each. With 15 light sticks to a tube, we practiced some random acts of kindness by passing some out to other kids watching the show as well.
Today, some friends visited this morning to pick up some toys we are gifting them from our donation stash. We were blessed recently with some toys, so it is only natural to pass some others along.

In a few minutes, we must hit the paint store and the hardware store for some frugal do-it-ourselves projects, and we will also visit the bakery thrift store.
