In the blog, Periodic Elements of Style, the blogger shows off an old coat before and after updating alterations. The changes are quite beautiful, not to mention, cost effective.
Likewise, the Today Show recently did a coat makeover fashion show pointing out that the changes could cost from $10.00 to $35.00 when having a professional re-style the coats. Considering that a good coat or Jacket can easily cost $100.00, that is a pretty good deal.
Here are some of the ideas they presented.
To update your old winter coats you can:
*Change out old plastic buttons to something more modern to makeover your old winter coat. Tortouise shell, Silver, Gold, and other metallics are popular this year.
*Add large bold broaches to make your old winter coat coat more modern (Michelle Obama popularized this style).
*Add a ribbon or fashion belt to makeover your old winter coat. (Another style the First Lady made popular)
*Have your coats shortened as a makeover of your old winter coat. Shorten a too long coat to hip length to creat a modern jacket.
*Shorten or remove sleeves to modernize your old coat. On the Today Show, they removed sleeves on from a faux fur coat to make a belted faux fur vest which is very popular this year. You can also shorten the sleeve to 3/4 length, another popular move this winter.
*Add a fur faux collar to any old winter coat or jacket for a luxurious update. These can be purchased quite inexpensively.
