A couple of years ago I blogged about the incredible amount of North American lodgings offering gas-saving travel deals to vacationers who were keeping a close eye on their wallets.
Well, here we go again. With the price of gas nearing record highs tourism officials around the nation are pulling out all the stops to lure visitors to their neck of the woods.
One state making headlines with their new fuel discounts is New Hampshire. The state’s Division of Travel and Tourism Development has wallpapered New Hampshire and its surrounding states with ads for gas-saving travel deals.
They include:
The Inn at Mill Falls in Meredith, which is offering a $20 per night gas voucher to guests. The lodging has its own gas station on its property and will offer the voucher through May. After that guests will be given a discount of 6 cents per gallon of gas when they fill up at the inn’s pumps.
The Highlands Inn in Bethlehem is giving their guests rebates of up to $50 based on how far they drive. Hybrid car drivers will get 30 cents a mile for the gas it takes to get to the northern New Hampshire inn, while drivers of traditional vehicles will get 25 cents a mile.
In the ads that are currently running in New York, New Jersey and parts of New England tourism officials are also emphasizing the state’s compact size. Less geography to cover means visitors can see and do more with a single tank of gas. In addition, New Hampshire is known for its world-class parks where tourists can park their cars and use their feet to travel from towering mountains to shimmering seashores. What’s more, tourism officials note that admission to many of the area’s parks is free, which means you can hike, bird watch, fish, or camp for free.
