Okay, fess up. What is your ultimate celebrity fantasy? Is it appearing as a guest on “The Oprah Winfrey Show?” Or, would you rather cozy up to one of the hunk’s from “Grey’s Anatomy?” Perhaps, it’s to spend the day lunching with actor Jason Bateman on a secluded beach in Malibu then dining by candlelight with Dean Cain at one of Wolfgang Puck’s world-famous restaurants (oh wait, that’s my celebrity fantasy).
If you are lucky (and have deep pockets) your fantasy could become reality thanks to an online auction sponsored by the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial. Organizers say the auction is a way for generous bidders to get the chance to fulfill their celebrity fantasies, including a walk-on role on “Desperate Housewives” or lunch with Richard Gere at his new restaurant. (Not too shabby, huh?)
The auction, which is currently taking bids, runs through April 6th. If chowing down in front of “Pretty Woman’s” handsome escort doesn’t have you reaching for your wallet, perhaps you’ll dig deep for tickets to “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” Or, maybe you’ll be inspired to shell out big bucks for the chance to sit in Oprah’s audience or visit the sets of “House,””24” or “Boston Legal.”
Auction organizers say they hope to raise at least $600,000. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the human rights organization named for Robert Kennedy, the former U.S. senator and attorney general.
According to media reports, last year the auction raised more than $360,000. I would venture to guess that that this year’s auction will likely exceed that amount. After all, there are a ton of great items to bid on regardless of your tastes. For example, if you are fashionista you can bid on a visit to Oscar de la Renta’s showroom and design studio. If you love science, there’s a tour of the National Air and Space Museum in Washington. If politics is your thing you could consider bidding on a lunch with former CIA officer Valerie Plame and her husband, former Ambassador Joe Wilson, at an unofficial, secret location, which auction organizers jokingly dubbed a “Safehouse.”
Surprisingly, I couldn’t find lunch with Jason Bateman/dinner with Dean Cain on the auction list…
