Fun Find: Bubber

If you are like me you have experience with modeling compounds. My crafts area is stocked with modeling clays, Play Doh, Sand, Magic Sand and maybe a small amount of Silly Putty. All of these compounds have their advantages and disadvantages. Modeling clay can be difficult for little hands to work with since it is hard and requires one to work with before it becomes pliable. Play Doh is a great solution to modeling clay but it dries out when left exposed. Sand is gritty and messy. Magic Sand is an improvement on sand yet messy and often does not form well. Silly Putty is simply silly and honestly not really a modeling compound. We use different types of modeling compound for different types of projects.

Recently, I found a modeling compound in the “sand genre” that puts all others to shame. The compound is called Bubber. What a fun name! The name gets your attention alone but once you open up a box you and your child will be hooked.

Advantages:

Super soft compound: No grittiness, just softness that makes it enjoyable to touch.

Never dries out: We tested this since we keep it in a storage box with no lid.

Molds easily: With the use of tools, you can mold this compound into fun creations without a hassle.

Cleans up easily: How a product cleans up is important when you have little ones. This product does not stain. You can sweep it away without stepping on gritty sand for days and it does not stay lodged in carpet like clay or dough.

Disadvantages:

Messy: Bubber, like any other craft or toy of this type, will cause a mess. You can minimize the mess by keeping in a plastic box or an under the bed box with tons of Bubber and tools for an indoor sandbox. Since it cleans up easily with no fuss it will not be offensive to have in the house. However, there is no way around some hitting the floor.

Tools required: The compound is very soft and unlike Play Doh or modeling clay, you will want tools to form it into shapes. The compound is like a futuristic sand retaining the good elements and eliminating the bad. Yet, like sand to make castles, cars, or cupcakes, you will need to provide tools such as measuring cups, Play Doh tools, or Bubber tools. Bubber does carry a host of fun tools.

So far in our house we love Bubber. It inspires creativity and imagination while being hands on and fun to work with. I see an indoor Bubber sandbox in the near future.
