Pint-sized SpongeBob SquarePants fans don’t have to travel to a pineapple under the sea to get up close and personal with their favorite Nickelodeon character.
Thanks to Norwegian Cruise Line, kids can have a blast with SpongeBob and the rest of his watery friends while floating on the open sea. Earlier this month the cruise line announced that it will be partnering with Nickelodeon to bring SpongeBob and other well-known Nickelodeon characters to at least two of its ships in time for Spring Break 2010.
The first Nick and Friends cruise will depart in April on the Norwegian Jewel. It will be followed by a summer cruise this July on the soon-to-debut Norwegian Epic. The sailings cater to kids and will include Nickelodeon-themed interactive shows, pool parties, character breakfasts, character meet and greets, dance extravaganzas, and other family-friendly entertainment. In addition, both ships will feature Norwegian’s popular Kids’ Crew program.
Norwegian Cruise Line execs say the impetus for the new partnership with Nickelodeon is to attract more families to the open seas. In addition, the company says it wants to show families that cruising can be an affordable option to land-based vacations at major theme park, such as Disney World. To prove how cost-effective a Nick-themed cruise can be, Norwegian brass noted that with the exception of the character breakfasts with the likes of SpongeBob, Dora the Explorer and Diego, passengers will not have to pay extra to take part in the onboard Nickelodeon-themed offerings.
According to Norwegian Cruise line, the new three-year partnership will Nickelodeon will translate into several special Nickelodeon-themed cruises each year featuring Nickelodeon TV stars, show premieres and continuous themed-entertainment on a variety of ships.
If you are a fan of Royal Caribbean Cruises, you should note that the new relationship between Norwegian Cruise Line and Nickelodeon means that you will no longer be able to find Nickelodeon-themed cruises on RCL.
