Part of the fun of planning for your baby’s arrival is designing his or her nursery. Of course, I have never designed a nursery myself but I have heard from friends that it is a lot of fun. The reason that I have never designed a nursery is that we have a family bed, and have had a family bed ever since our oldest son was born. For parents who do plan to have a nursery, here are a few fun nursery themes that you may like for your home.
Owls and trees. This is most definitely the theme that I would have chosen for a nursery because I love owls. This theme is very versatile, and you can choose from many different color variations. That is one thing that I love about children’s room design – you can make things any color that you want. Owls do not have to be brown, they can be pink, green, orange, or whatever color you desire. A popular thing to do with this theme is to have the walls painted a solid color, and then add a large tree decal (or paint your own) on one of the walls, with a few owls sitting in the branches.
Another fun idea is an alphabet theme. From bedding to borders and wall art to window coverings there are furnishings that will have your baby’s room covered from A to Z. There are some nice alphabet crib bedding sets out there, or go with a solid colored or two tone bedding set and save the letters for decorating. I have seen a ton of fun DIY ideas on this theme on Pinterest, so if you are looking for a fun DIY theme then this may be the one for you.
A third popular nursery design option is the decidedly non – babyish nursery. Sophisticated solid colors paired with patterns like plaids and toile can make for a very stylish nursery. Use bold colors to make it playful, or soft colors for a more restful retreat. Remember, there is no requirement that a nursery contain duckies, bunnies, or teddy bears as part of the décor.
