Fun with Crayons and Paper

Did you ever notice that more often than not the simplest ideas are the ones your kids end up enjoying the most? Simple craft ideas also make it easy on Mom and Dad, because they require little effort and they can be done with things your kids already have handy. You will love these crayon and paper crafts, because they fit that category. Your kids will love them because they are fun.

Don’t Pick up the Crayon

Have your child make a line drawing, or one that is completely derived from one line. Once your child begins, he or she must continue drawing, never lifting the crayon from the paper. Have children make the most intricate design possible. When they run out of ideas, give them each a different color crayon and have them repeat the process. They can keep the design as is, or color in the shapes when finished.

Watercolors and White Crayons

You may have tried this idea with Easter eggs. Have children draw a picture on white paper with a white crayon. When finished drawing, have them paint the entire page with watercolor paint (place newspaper or plastic bag beneath paper). The paint will soak into the paper but will not be absorbed where the lines from the crayon are present.

Crayon Shavings Art

Don’t throw away those old or broken crayons! Take any that can still be used and sharpen them with a sharpener. Save the shavings. Also sharpen broken crayons that you don’t want to save. Sharpen them until you can’t go down any further and collect the shavings. Have children spread glue on a sheet of paper, or use glue stick, then sprinkle crayon shavings over the glue to make unique designs. For even more decorative interest, let children add glitter to the design if you have some.
