I just love those Apple ads that pit the PC guy against the Mac guy. They are so very entertaining in a way that doesn’t put the competitor down. I frequently go to Apple.com just to view the ads. They are just excellent.
This latest ad is no exception. Posted on Apple’s homepage, it features the Mac guy, the PC guy and Santa Claus in animation, reminiscent of the classic Rankin-Bass holiday television features, such as Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and The Year Without A Santa Claus (Remember freeze-miser?).
In the ad, the Mac and the PC get together with Santa to sing, “Santa Claus is Coming to Town) “You better watch out, you better not cry…” The short clip has a lot of funny moments from the line, “he knows when you’re in sleep mode,” to the way that PC can’t resist putting in a hopeless plug for himself. I won’t spoil all of the fun. You should really go and check out the ad yourself. I can pretty much guarantee that it will make you smile, and if you are a loyal Mac fan, you’ll even laugh heartily.
My kids loved watching the ad and asked me to play it over and over again. I don’t know if it was the fact that santa was in it or the fact that PC looks just so darn cute when animated. The creators definitely got the facial expressions down, and the characters really come to life.
As I mentioned, the ad is currently features on the Apple homepage. If for some reason they move the ad before you get to see it, just navigate over to the “Get a Mac” page, http://www.apple.com/getamac/, where you can view all of the ads.
