Garage Sale Hopping

What’s a great way to spend a spring day outside? Garage Sale Hopping is an ideal way to get to know people in your neighborhood and to locate some treasures. When I was growing up, my parents used to love to spend at least one weekend day combing the various garage sales in an area.

The neat thing about going to garage sales is you invariably find some treasure that you can use and more than likely at a bargain price. While I’ve only ever hosted a garage sale once or twice – it can be almost as much fun to host one as it is to go to them.

Depending on where you live, you can either take a car to drive around and visit the garage sales or you can walk. Walking requires that most of them be in a one to two mile radius. But whether you are out bargain hunting or just getting out and about, garage sales offer you a lot of opportunities.

The first few times I took my daughter out for a garage sale hunt, she had a wonderful time. She loved to talk to the owners. She loved looking through the toys. Admittedly, a lot of it was junk, but she did find more than one nice doll that was available for 50 cents or a dollar.

We’ve found clothes that were still in excellent condition. More often than not, children outgrow their clothes before they become worn out. We found a tricycle once that was a great gift for another when we cleaned it up. There was also a wooden table that we picked up to paint for a project at home.

As the days warm up and you’re looking for something interesting to do – go garage sale hopping. You may discover a great treasure of your own.
