As I was driving around this past weekend, I noticed that apparently garage sale season is in full swing in our area. Signs were posted everywhere and there seemed to be more people out on the roads on a Saturday morning then there has been in many months. In our area, garage sales seem to be very popular from March until about October or November. All of the neighborhoods in the area have huge neighborhood sales, in addition to the many independent sales you find at different times during the season.
I am a garage sale junkie at heart. Not only do I love going to them, and seeing what cool things I can find, and what great deals there are, but I am also known to love having them a couple of times a year. Out with the old, in with the new. Sounds like a great motto to me!
One of my neighbors dubbed me the “garage sale queen” several years back, because we had so many garage sales all in one year. And with that, she knew I attended them frequently. I am by far not the garage sale queen, as in the past several years I have met people who go every single weekend, sometimes both weekend days, and they hold the crown in my book! I couldn’t do that even if I wanted to, which I absolutely do not.
However, many a deal can be found at a garage sale. Just because someone else does not want it, sure does not mean it won’t be useful to someone else. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. I have found many treasures at garage sales. I have found several baking dishes to use with my freezer cooking, plastic containers for storage, books for my children to read, name brand clothing, toys, electronics and so much more! My favorite sales are neighborhood sales and my next favorite are moving sales.
