You just have to love a publishing company that names itself “Garlic Press.” I was inclined to like this series of books for that alone. Then I opened the books, and liked them even better.
Garlic Press publishes books that cover a huge range of topics. I was first introduced to their Straight Forward Math series. I appreciated how they covered each topic sufficiently without moving on too quickly, and without beating the horse to death. The lettering on the pages is nice and dark, so you can plainly see what you’re looking at, and the books are fully reproducible. I went into the copy center the other day and ran off the entire first multiplication book so each of my kids could have their own worksheet. Of course, the copyright states that you can only make copies for your own class, but that’s all right—I wasn’t planning to distribute it through the neighborhood.
Their books cover math from simple addition to advanced multiplication and division. You’ll also find trig, geometry, and calculus. You can also get a set of books that contain puzzles and practices to solidify those math skills, and books on applying math.
The English series covers everything from punctuation to grammar, from beginning to advanced, and there’s quite a huge selection of learning materials for sign language.
And Literature … how I love literature. Sigh … oh, sorry. I’m back now. Each set contains either six or seven books for exploring main ideas and has guides for discussion.
Now, this is cool—there’s also a page with materials for the substitute teacher. These materials might not be as needed in the homeschool setting, but I’m sure our public school counterparts will love the aids offered through this site.
If you’re not sure if you’ll like these workbooks, you can check out sample pages on the site. Isn’t that cool? I’ve never seen a site do that before. Click here to see their sample pages and to get a feel for their style.
You can order these books online, or you can use the store locator built in to the site. And possibly best of all, these high-quality books are really affordable. In the math series, for instance, each book is $4.95. And did I mention they’re reproducible? So you buy one book, you copy it for your kids, and … wow. How cheap is that, and for a good product, too?
So go check out Garlic Press and see if they’re a good fit for you. Hmmm … I already have the books I need, but I’m so tempted right now to order more, just because …
