Gearing Up for Christmas

Every year it seems Christmas come earlier. By this Christmas will you have reached your weight loss goal? Will you resolve to stay on your weight loss journey through the sugar plums dancing in your head? It is a hard time of year for dieters. I know of no other time of year where people engage in so much candy, cookies, cakes, and pies. All December long will be a test of will power. Will you pass?

Gearing up for the holiday ahead:

Remember your goal: Christmas comes and goes but the pounds gained will be with you long after the gifts are open and the Christmas tree is taken down. Remember your goal through all the temptation. Rarely is a larger piece of pie worth the extra calories.

Eat: Do not skip meals or you will find yourself more susceptible to the temptation the gingerbread cookie brings. Eat a hearty breakfast of quinoa, oatmeal or another whole grain to keep you satisfied until lunch. Eat a protein with every meal and snack to supply your body with what it needs and to keep you from cravings.

Keep Hydrated: Often thirst presents as hunger. Drench your hunger and you will find that you do not overeat or crave the Christmas goodies as much.

Cookie Craze: This is the time of year we make cookies and sweets for neighbors and loved ones. While we are packing up these cookies or even stirring up the batter we indulge. The trouble with this type of snacking is that it is mindless. We can eat all the “imperfect” cookies and taste the batter until we reached 1,000 calories and 30 grams of fat before we realize it. This year try making something else homemade that isn’t food for your neighbors and friends. If you feel the need to bake then make low fat or healthy yet fun items.
