Within 72 hours of Labor Day officially ending, our local Wal-Mart began removing back-to-school supplies and filling the empty shelves with Halloween paraphernalia.
No, I still can’t get over it.
If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em, right?
Today, I started sorting through my Halloween scrapping supplies, hoping that I had enough leftovers from last year to get me through 2010’s Nightmare on Candy Street. Fortunately, I have a variety of stickers, rub-ons, rubber stamps, charms, and die-cuts to make several decent Halloween-themed layouts. However, I will need to purchase additional decorative patterned papers, given that the ones I bought last year were meant to match my daughter’s neon green dinosaur costume.
To save money I could opt to use basic orange and black paper and simply use black-and-white or sepia tone photos on the page, but I prefer matching the paper to my daughter’s costume. I will have to review my budget before making a final decision on that. Another option is to use image editing software such as Adobe Photoshop Elements to give the pictures a distressed look. Doing so will help add a spooky touch to my Halloween layout.
In addition, I will have to look through the remainder of my scrapbook paper stack to see what can be used for the other fall/Halloween layouts I have in mind. Some of my favorite ideas (which will yield at least one page each) include:
*Picking pumpkins
*Carving pumpkins
*Putting up Halloween decorations
*Baking Halloween goodies
*Shopping or sewing Halloween costumes
*Putting on the costume (a series of photos can be taken to show the before and after)
*Trick-or-treating
*Halloween parties at school or at home
*A porch full of lit jack-o-lanterns
If you can’t afford to fill your pages with expensive embellishments, then make your own from scraps of your favorite orange patterned papers. To top off your holiday layout, print out a spooky title using Gothic looking Halloween font or one that uses letters made from bones or blood.
