Gearing Up for Puppy Bowl IV

That’s right. It’s that time of year again. Time for what’s become a pre-Super Bowl tail-gating tradition in our house: watching Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl. And it’s the team of frisky pups getting their game on that truly puts the “tail” in tail-gating!

This year’s “Starting Line-up”

Which of the 33 puppies will be able to hang in there for the duration of the game? Who’s got the moves to go the distance?

There’s no telling until the hounds are let loose on the field, but here’s this year’s contenders:

Abigail (Jack Russell Terrier)

Jack (Mini Dachshund)

Attucker (Beagle)

Jackson (West Highland Terrier)

Bailey (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel/Havanese, which is also called Cavanese)

Janet (American Staffordshire Terrier/Labrador Retriever Mix)

Bingo (American Staffordshire Terrier/American Pit Bull Mix)

Justin (West Highland White Terrier)

Bria (Cardigan Welsh Corgi)

Kala (Blue Staffordshire Bull Terrier)

Bruin (Alaskan Malamute)

Kimmi (Beagle)

Cali (Shih Tzu)

Kodiak (Rottweiler/Lab Mix)

Cody (American Cocker Spaniel/Poodle Mix, which is also called Cockapoo)

Kira (Chow Chow Mix)

Colt (Bernese Mountain Dog)

Maisey (Australian Toy Shepherd)

Daisy (American Staffordshire Terrier/Bull Terrier Mix)

Mrs. Roper (Labrador Retriever Mix)

Delilah (Shepherd Mix)

Panda (Labrador Retriever/Rottweiler Mix)

Dixie (Golden Retriever)

Rascal (Border Collie Mix)

Elle (Havanese)

Raven (Beagle/Mini Pinscher Mix)

Ellie Mae (Saint Bernard/Shepherd Mix)

Scuba (Breed not known, a mix of some sort)

Emma (Parson Russell Terrier)

Snowden (Pointer/American Staffordshire Terrier Mix)

Finnigan (Cavalier Kings Charles Spaniel/Bichon Frise Mix, which is also called Cavachon)

Tucker (Maltese/Yorkshire Terrier Mix, which is also called Morkie)

Jack (Labrador Mix)

First Observations

I haven’t seen any of the puppies in action, but based on their pictures and breed info, I’d have to say Abigail, Attucker, Jackson, Justin, Colt, Daisy, Rascal, Dixie, Scuba, Snowden, and Tucker seem the spunkiest of the bunch. Might be ones to watch for MVP. (Which maybe they’ll have a vote on again after the Puppy Bowl like they did last year?)

Speaking of their pictures…they’re all adorable, but a couple really jumped out at me.

Bruin’s pic cracked me up hardest.

Jack looks most forlorn.

Kira’s the puffiest puff ball of the bunch.

Dixie strikes me as uber intelligent. (Just because of the way she’s sitting and looking into the camera with a very astute expression and demeanor.)

Mrs. Roper’s captured my vote for most adorable of all. (Which seems crazy to have a fave among them, because like I said they’re all cute.)

Kitty Half-Time Show?

Yep, I read on Animal Planet’s website they’ll do the Bissell Kitty Half-Time Show again too. Great! (I don’t know what I like better –the main event or the half-time entertainment!)

Starting Time

Sunday, February at 3 p.m. (And then they’ll be rerunning it all night after that.)

Something New This Year

For all you high-tech TV peep out there, it’ll also be aired in HD.
