Genealogy is fun, and so are contests. Today, I have rounded up a few genealogy contests for you in case you are interested in entering them.
The first contest has been going on for a while and it is only open for a short time more. I found it on Dear Myrtle’s genealogy blog and it runs through 30 Sept 2012. The contest is called “Share a Memory”, and it sounds like a lot of fun. Basically, you choose the memory you want to share and the media that you want to use to share it, and share away. Some ideas include an ancestor’s story, a family reunion memory, a family recipe story, or a story of how the family pulled together to get through a difficult time.
The National Genealogical Society has a contest called The Family History Writing Contest. It is an annual contest, and the deadline for entering it is December 31. If you enjoy writing about family history, you may want to write a submission for this contest. Your entry must include family members from no less than three and no more than four generations. The author of the winning entry will receive an all expense paid trip to the next NGS Family History Conference, including travel to and from the conference, accommodations, conference registration, and a complimentary banquet ticket. The rules for the contest are fairly specific, so be sure to visit the NGS website before sitting down to write.
If you are interested in making genealogy your profession, and you regularly participate in genealogy research, study, and conferences, you should enter the NGS Home Study Course Scholarship Contest. This annual contest has a deadline of January 31. Each year, one dedicated genealogist receives a full scholarship to the NGS Home Study Course, which normally costs $475.00. The contest consists of filling out a form as well as writing a personal essay. NGS membership is also required. Please visit the NGS contest for complete rules and contest details.
If you decide to enter one of these genealogy contests, good luck!
