Genealogy Podcast Roundup June 22, 2011

iPod Ready to learn more about genealogy, but don’t think you have to time to take a class or read a blog? Try listening to a genealogy podcast! There are quite a few to choose from, and you can listen to the episodes while you are doing other tasks. You can either download the episodes, or listen to them through a live stream.

There are several podcasts that are specifically focusing on different aspects of genealogy. These can be excellent resources for genealogists who want to learn more about their favorite hobby. Before you can listen to them, however, you have to find them.

Here is a “Podcast Roundup” for this week:

Family Tree Magazine has its own podcast. It is a monthly podcast that focuses on a different genealogy related theme each episode. This month they talk about how to preserve your ancestors souvenirs and how to take a research trip, and more.

The Genealogy Guys podcast has two new episodes for June, 2011. The most recent episode is number 223. They bring you up to date about changes at Cyndi’s List and MyHeritage.com, share news about a genealogy expo and the “Genealogy Roadshow”, and tell you about a winner of a genealogy grant. This episode contains book reviews and responses to listener’s email.

The episode before that, number 222, was for June 5, 2011. They bring you new resources added to FamilySearch and the British Library, They tell you about the World Memory Project, and AncestorSync, and point out information about membership to genealogy groups and some upcoming genealogy events. This episode also contains responses to listener’s email.

Geni.com has produced three episodes for June of 2011 (so far). The episode from June 14, 2011 has an interview with Noah Tutak, the CEO of Geni, Inc., and Charles Edmonds, the customer service manager for Geni, Inc. The previous episode, produced June 10, 2011, focuses on AncestorSync. The episode produced on June 3, 2011, talks about mentoring in genealogy.

The Genealogy Gems podcast also appears to be monthly. Their most recent episode is number 112, and the subject is “Helping kids embrace family history”. They talk with children who are attending the Southern California Genealogy Jamboree Kid’s Camp, who are working on their family history. The episode also includes comments from the camp instructors, parents, and grandparents who shared this exploration into genealogy with the children.
