Every week, the Genealogy Podcast Roundup brings you brand new episodes of podcasts that talk about topics related to genealogy. Has your favorite genealogy podcast released a new episode yet?
African Roots Podcast released episode number 165 on June 1, 2012. In this episode, host Angela Walton-Raji talks a little about her recent visit to Arkansas where she attended a Preservation conference and the dedication of a monument to the first black Deputy Marshal on the western frontier. She also talks about the upcoming conference by the African American Genealogy Group of Philadelphia, upcoming Juneteenth celebrations, the Samford IGHR, the FGS Conference, and more!
Irish Roots Cafe released a new episode on June 2, 2012. This episode is called “St. Patricks Day Parade History ; Free Irish Audio book p-6”. This is a continuation of an audio recording of the First Book on the Missouri Irish, which was written by Michael C. O’Laughlin. This episode focuses on part 6 of that book. It gives details about the history of the St. Patrick’s Day parades in the United States.
Genies Down Under released their episode for June of 2012. This is episode 9, and it is called “Context stuff for genies: Getting to know your ancestors”. This episode answers questions that new genealogists may have about how to find out more about their ancestors’ everyday lives, how to find context in their own family research, and what “context of family history research” means. You can also find links to resources for Aussie genealogists.
NPR released an episode of “Talk of the Nation” on May 23, 2012. This episode is called “Son Discovers Father’s Secret Past On A Surfboard”. Don Waters was three years old when his father, Robert Stanley Waters, abandoned both him and his mother. Shortly before Robert died, he sent Don an autobiography. Years later, Don was able to read the autobiography and learn many things about his father’s life and experiences.
NPR released an episode of “Weekend Edition Sunday” on June 3, 2012. This episode is called “A Parasite Pie Fit For A Queen’s Diamond Jubilee”. This episode is about one of the gifts that will be given to Queen Elizabeth II for her Diamond Jubilee.
The town of Gloucester traditionally gives the Queen a lamprey pie. Lampreys used to be plentiful in Gloucester, but have since been overfished. The town had to import some lampreys from the United States in order to make this particular delicacy for the Queen. Traditional food is an intrinsic part of a person’s cultural heritage, so I decided to include this episode into this week’s Genealogy Podcast Roundup.
