In his talk “Do You Know?” Elder Glenn L Pace speaks specifically to the youth of the church. He begins by sharing the story of how he gained a testimony of the Prophet Joseph Smith when he was eleven years old. He also shares the story of a young woman who is the only member in her high school. She admits that at times she finds it difficult to be the only member.
Elder Pace goes on to speak about the witness of the spirit. He challenges the parents to help their children feel the spirit, so that when the time comes the children can recognize that the spirit is bearing witness to them. He points out that the witness of the spirit does not necessarily need to be a spectacular event, but can simply be a warm feeling of peace.
Elder Pace then shares the story of an investigator who joined the church after feeling a strong witness from the Savior. She struggled because she could not explain every aspect of the church intellectually. She eventually ell away, but when she visited Temple Square, she felt the spirit again and recognized it. Elder Pace points out that once you have felt the spirit that you will always be able to tell when it is witnessing to you.
Elder Pace challenges each of the youth to take the time to gain a testimony of Joseph Smith. He points out that once you have a testimony of this, your testimony regarding the rest of the church will fall into place. It is important to have a testimony so that you will have the strength you need in order to live the standards and stand as a witness.
This is a wonderful talk. It is important for every member to have a strong testimony of the Prophet Joseph Smith and that he restored the true church to the earth. If you have not already received a testimony of this principle, then you should take Elder Pace’s challenge as well.
