In his talk “Prophets—Pioneer and Modern Day” Elder Earl C Tingey talks about Brigham Young and President Gordon B Hinckley. He lists their accomplishments as well as comparing them to each other. The talk focuses on how the Lord blesses his prophets and the people of the church.
Elder Tingey begins by speaking about Brigham Young. He lists several accomplishments of Brigham Young. One of which was taking the saints across the plains and helping them build a prosperous city from practically nothing. President Young went on to organize 400 more colonies throughout the West.
Elder Tingey speaks of some of the things that Brigham Young oversaw during his life. He organized several universities. He had temples built while the saints were still establishing themselves. He also organized the Perpetual Emigration Fund to help other saints come to Utah.
Elder Tingey points out that President Young cared for many people. He loved and watched over the saints. He was concerned about the youth of the church. He also had a deep respect and love for the Prophet Joseph Smith.
Elder Tingey then begins to speak about President Hinckley. He points out that President Hinckley has traveled all over the world meeting various rulers. He has also helped to the world to know more about the church through his willingness to talk to the media.
Elder Tingey goes on to point out that similarly President Hinckley values education as he set up the Perpetual Education Fund. He has also overseen the building of more temples than any other prophet has. He also loves the members of the church and the youth. He also has a strong testimony of the Prophet Joseph Smith.
This talk is very interesting to read. It points out some similarities of the two prophets. I think it is important for us to realize the blessings of having a prophet on the earth today. It is a wonderful blessing that we can continue to receive revelation from the Lord.
