In his talk “Special Experiences” Elder Ronald A Rasband speaks about the importance of having spiritual experiences to build our testimonies. He compares these blocks to the blocks that you use to build the foundation of your house. As you use each of these experiences to strengthen your testimony, you will better able to deal with the challenges of life.
Elder Rasband shares one of his spiritual experiences. He tells about a visit that he made to Peru to take care of church business. While there he had the opportunity to visit some members new home. These members lived on an island that was build out of reeds. He learned of the sacrifices that their children made to attend seminary. He saw the importance of the temple to them, as they showed them their current recommends. Before he left they prayed together.
Elder Rasband urges us to remember the times when your prayers were answered. He wants you to remember the moments that helped you to gain your testimony. He points out that as you do your faith will increase, and you will be able to share the gospel with others as well.
This is a wonderful talk. At times it is easy to brush aside past experiences, and feel alone or neglected. If we do our testimony begins to slide. It becomes much more difficult to hold onto our faith. However if we look to the past and remember the blessings that the Lord has given us, it is much easier to hold on. Though we may be going through a difficult challenge, remembering that the Lord is with us, even when we don’t realize it, can give us the strength to go on. I hope that you will take the time to read this talk, and to consider your special spiritual experiences. You may want to take the time to record them, so that you can look back and see the many blessings that the Lord has given you.
