There’s nothing like tax time to get you to review just how generous you’ve been in the last 12 months. And it’s not just you—–many Hollywood celebrities are taking time to total up their good (financial) deeds and some have been quite a bit more generous than others.
Take for example, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. The handsome Tinseltown duo is known for helping those in need with their time and talent, but did you know that according to federal tax filings, the pair routinely digs deep (really deep) into their wallets to aid the less fortunate as well?
According to newly released tax records, Pitt and Jolie gave more than $8 million in donations to various charities in 2006. Pitt reportedly shelled out $4,402,317, while Jolie donated $4,123,613.
And that was 2006. In 2007, Brad’s Make It Right Foundation raised $5 million.
But getting back to the 2006 figures. According to Pitt’s records, his charitable foundation handed out $2,367,935, including $1 million to both Doctors Without Borders (International Division) and to the Global AIDS Alliance.
Additional gifts included $137,935 to the Namibia Red Cross Action Program located near where their daughter Shiloh was born; $100,000 to the Daniel Pearl Foundation (the late journalist’s widow, Marianne Pearl, was played by Jolie in “A Mighty Heart”); and $100,000 to Global Green U.S.A.
Closer to home, Jolie donated $20,000 to help build an art park in Los Angeles. The pregnant mother of four also gave $5,000 donations to two orphanages that she visited during her travels to promote adoption.
But Jolie and Pitt aren’t the only big name stars reaching out to those in need.
Former “Friends” stars and real life gal pals Courteney Cox Arquette and Jennifer Aniston recently joined forces to serve on the honorary advisory board of Epidermolysis Bullosa Medical Research Foundation.
And if you think the Hollywood beauties are the only ones supporting this worthy cause think again. The group’s advisory board reads like the guest list to a Tinseltown bash. Joining the gorgeous actresses are Cox’s husband David Arquette; singer Gwen Stefani and her hot hubby Gavin Rossdale; Orlando Bloom, Kate Beckinsale, Rashida Jones, Eva Longoria Parker and none other than Aniston’s ex, Brad Pitt.
Cox and Arquette are helping spearhead a project in which they hope to raise $1 million for the foundation in the next two weeks.
Epidermolysis Bullosa is a rare and debilitating genetic skin condition that primarily affects children, and according to Cox, it is a cause that is near and dear to her heart, though she wouldn’t reveal why.
